Coming Soon

26Aug09

There is nothing I love more than seeing an amazing movie that is actually worth the overpriced movie ticket I payed ten bucks and change for. This post is all about the movies that are Coming Soon that I’m either dying to see, not sure what to think about, or think is going to be a total disaster. Click each of the titles below to view their trailers I found on YouTube.

SEPT 11 I Can Do Bad All By Myself
AUG 28 Halloween II
AUG 28 THE Final Destination (As if it really matters what title they give that movie. Thanks Clint, for the correction)
SEPT 11 Sorority Row
NOV 20 New Moon
SEPT 4 Gamer
DEC 18 Avatar
SUMMER 2010The Last Airbender
MAR 5, 2010 Alice in Wonderland

Alright, we have a lot of movies to cover, so let’s get started.

I think people need to quit judging Tyler Perry so harshly for dressing up like an old, ghetto woman every now and then. Madea is a great character and the films I have seen her in are pretty decent. I haven’t seen any of the plays yet, unfortunately, but I’ll be watching those soon.
The thing I love most about the Madea films are that she is never the lead role. Another character is usually going through a pretty serious situation and Madea is usually someone on the side who not only provides excellent comic relief, but a message that is usually family oriented and presented as something that should’ve already been known like common sense. I’m looking forward to seeing I Can Do Bad All By Myself when it comes out in theaters on September 11.

You know that if it’s a Rob Zombie film, it’s filled with horror, gore, and all around some pretty sick stuff that would even make the boogeyman’s skin crawl. He’s great at making horror films, although I didn’t really like The Devil’s Rejects all too well. Still, the first Halloween remade by him was great. It took the original and pumped it up exactly right, and I love how he still kept Halloween classic and didn’t try to alter it too much from the original. Halloween II looks, to me, like another classic Halloween movie, and a definite must see for all you horror fans out there. Go on and get scared shitless of the psycho that has appeared in at least one of your nightmares throughout your life.

(EDIT: Sorry, guys. It appears as though I got the title wrong. THE Final Destination is the name of the movie… let’s hope it stays true to it’s name.)
This next movie is probably going to be disappointing compared to Michael Myers. Is anyone really going to see Final Destination 4? I’m pretty sure that there will be NO original characters in this movie, considering that they all died in the other Final Destination movies, and unless if there’s some huge twist in the end of this one, I’m not too interested in seeing it. It’s a movie where freak accidents happen and kill people that try to cheat death. As far as I’m concerned, I already saw a movie like that. It was called Final Destination.

I’m not too sure about this next horror flick. Sorority Row is probably one of those types of movies that I would go and see with a bunch of friends just to laugh at how the people die and the classic stupid horror movie mistakes each one of them will make. I’m not sure whether it looks cheesy or at least a decent thriller and suspense, movie. I’ll just have to go see it for myself. If you hear a bunch of laughing and talking during this movie while you watch it, I’m pretty sure it’ll be coming from me.

Alright, are all the screaming teenagers that are most likely wearing “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob” shirts gone? If not, please leave, now. I prefer not to be hit .. or bitten .. for my opinions about this next movie.

Sparkly vampires and obsessive love stories were never really my thing to begin with, and neither was Catherine Hardwicke as a director. I began reading the Twilight series long before the announcement of making the movie was made. It’s not my type of book, but it was written well and I thought it’d make an alright movie, until I found out who the director was. Nothing against Catherine, but I just don’t enjoy the movies that she produces like Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown. The scenes tend to be too jumpy, in my opinion, and nothing just seems to flow at all. If you walk out to go to the bathroom, by the time you come back in about 3-5 minutes, you could have either missed nothing or half of the entire plot. Twilight was exactly what I thought it would be, which was disappointing, and the only hope that New Moon has is Chris Weitz. He’s a pretty decent director who’s made great movies like the American Pie movies and the upcoming movie, Gamer (which I will be discussing later). Still, I don’t see the Twilight Saga as my kind of vampire story, but this sequel could prove to be decent, and I’m sure I’ll be seeing it with my little cousin, anyways.

I’m very excited about these next few films, all of which look amazing. Let’s start of with another Chris Weitz film, Gamer, which features Gerard Butler, Kyra Sedgwick from The Closer, and Ludacris. I love how Gerard Butler stretches his talent with characters from all different genres. He’s done from action movies to chick flicks and even opera (I was very impressed with him in Phantom of the Opera). Ludacris should be pretty good in it, too. I don’t think he’s necessarily the best actor, but he’s not bad either. And it’s Ludacris; everyone loves at least one of his songs. Come on, admit it … at least one. The cast looks promising and overall I think this movie is going to be a great action flick to end the summer with. Interesting plot, as well. Something new that I’ve never really seen before. That always gets creativity points.

These next three movies have me going CRAZY. I wish they were out right NOW so I can see them!! First there’s Avatar, which I’m not too sure if it has anything to do with the actual series, because M. Night Shyamalan is coming out with The Last Airbender next year, which is definitely from the TV series Avatar. Either way, both movies look absolutely amazing with the graphics. Shyamalan’s is sure to be amazing. That man always makes those movies that make you think, sometimes about some pretty weird stuff.

And then there’s Tim Burton, who I have yet to see a bad movie from. Some people have addressed their concern for the computer graphics that are going to be in Alice and Wonderland, but I have no fears. This is Tim Burton. He’s going to be able to handle the graphics just fine and blend it in well with the INCREDIBLE make-up used on this AMAZING cast. Anne Hathaway was a name that I was very surprised to see, but I definitely expected Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. That role had him written all over it before Tim decided to remake this movie. I love the dark twist that he puts on this movie, as well. It’s not the bright, pretty wonderland that you see in the Disney version and it brings the story a lot closer to the book, I think, because the book wasn’t all bright and happy-go-lucky either. Not that the Disney version is a bad one, though. I loved Alice in Wonderland. It was my favorite Disney movie along with The Fox and the Hound.

And that’s my little splurge about the upcoming movies this year. Of course, there are a lot more that I would love to talk about, like Jonah Hex, Jennifer’s Body, Five Star Day, and more…. But this blog is already long as is. Maybe I’ll talk about those movies another time. For now, I’m done. Thanks for reading!

  1. It’s called THE Final Destination, it will be awesome, and Tyler Perry sucks. You can tell I’m right because I provide absolutely no evidence for my opinions.

  2. I can’t believe you actually changed that. And yes, it will be less than awesome but I really want to see that chick get hit with the tire.

I’m assuming that seeing this in my post is why you asked who the fuck Clint is? haha

Clint is the person that commented right above you.

He is a fellow blogger whom I have never met.
He also knows a lot about correct movie titles, and has played a very nice devil’s advocate for this blog post, so his comments are accepted.

[{:=3 <— Chef Pierre. Chicken or Beef, THE BESTiE??? ….

P.S. .. how DO you get those upside down question marks?

    • 5 THE BESTiE

HOLA. THE UPSiDE DOWN QUESTiON MARKS ARE ” ALT 7080 ”
CHiCKEN OR BEEF? WOW THATS SOOOOOOO OLD.
      =] CHiCKEN THOUGH.

  5. First, I almost never advocate the devil. Second, you don’t really need a theme for your blog, just write whatever you want like the rest of us do. Third, THE BESTiE, how long does it take to write throwing down all those lower case i’s. That is mad dedication.
